Baby It’s Cold Outside—Hatchery Staff Sets Sights On Spring
Staff at the Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park are busy preparing for the 2016 fishing season. The fully-stocked Hatchery is tending to tens-of-thousands of fish and expects to release more than 20,000 trout during 2016; the majority for release just prior to the 13th Annual Riedman Foundation Opening Day Derby. The April 1, all-ages tournament raises essential funds for hatchery operations while marking the opening day of trout season in celebratory fashion.
Throughout the season, hatchery staff will release both brown and rainbow trout into the stretch of Irondequoit Creek that passes through Powder Mills Park:

The Fish Hatchery at Powder Mills Park is open all year long. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to visit with staff and learn how Hatchery operations positively affect our local environment. Hatchery staff is on duty Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. most weekends. The hatchery phone number is 585-586-1670.
