July 16 & 17, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
The Historic Village takes on the guise of a border town, in which civilians tried to maintain normal lives while the war raged on. Two battles each day demonstrate mounted cavalrymen and infantry maneuvers. Each day sees two battles. The South Field Battle will feature mounted cavalrymen and artillery. Witness dozens of riders as they defend the surrounding community from being blasted by cannon shells. See the infantry maneuver around houses and shops, over fences, and through enemy lines as one side defends the village from being stormed!
Townsfolk occupying the village will offer musical concerts, specialty shopping and vignettes depicting civilian life during the war.
The military camps will also be open for inspection during the day. Mounted cavalrymen will be parading about on campus and warming up for the afternoon battle. In the morning, the artillery commanders will host a firing demonstration prior to the first battle. Both days of the program will feature a fashion show demonstrating the day wear and evening wear worn by both women and men during the 1860s.
